McDonald’s Canada gets Hacked, sensitive information leaked

I don’t know how idle and juvenile one must be but ok. According to McDonald’s Canada, apparently, the jobs section on its website has been infiltrated by someone with “hacking know-how”.

This person—or persons—got access to the personal information of the company’s 95,000 applicants over the past 3 years.

The information includes the names, home addresses, and so forth. Obviously, there info is out there but I think the part that might get most of them upset is their home addresses being made public. The site was immediately shut down when the hack was detected but the damage had already been done.

That is not safe.

Thankfully, the company does not collect social insurance numbers or banking informations.

At this time, we have no information that the information taken has been misused,” the company said in a statement. “We apologize to those impacted by this incident….The careers webpage will remain shut down until the investigation is complete and appropriate measures are taken to ensure that this type of security breach does not happen again.”

This happened mid-last month according to the company’s spokesperson. Since the hacking, the company has alerted all the provincial and territorial privacy commissioner along with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. The individuals whose personal information has been compromised with be notified via email, phone or mail.

The company is still investigating to find out who did this. Could it have been a disgruntled worker or a tech-savvy teenager with too time on his hands? Only time will tell. If after hearing all of this you are not deterred from wanting to apply for work at McDonald’s, then do so in person. McDonald’s Canada has over 1,400 restaurants under its umbrella and over eighty thousand persons on the payroll.
