First-Class Or Business Class?

‘We are all the same; no one is better than the other’.

This is an expression we all hear a lot and some of us teach this to our kids and that is good. But the fact of the matter is:

Some people are better than other people. Or at least, this is what the airlines tell us.

I, myself, have never understood the concept of first-class and economy. Why can’t we all just pay the same amount of money for the same amenities?

Why Do I Have To Choose?

If you are a very tall person as aforementioned, you might want to invest in a first-class ticket if you are travelling far like from New Jersey to New Zealand. If not, you’ll be uncomfortable and probably in pain the whole flight.

For others, if you do not have the extra mulla to spend, then business is your only choice.

However, for those of you who are spoilt for choice, here are some differences between the two and hopefully, at the end of this article, you will be more equipped to make a conscious decision.

#1. Before Boarding

When on the ground, the differences between first-class and business-class travels are not too obvious according to some frequent flyers. The lounges in the U.S. are terrible and are now being taken care of while the lounges in Asia and Europe are known to be the best in the world. Still, at the end of the day, it depends on the airline. The business-class has quick Wi-Fi, snacks and space. You’ll have to buy food at the food court if you want something more substantial. That’s it! Nothing more!

#2. Boarding Perks

Even though the majority of airlines board both first- and business-class passengers together, a few of them will make travelers wait until all the first-class passengers are seated and taken care of before getting on board.

Double standards!

As far as I am concerned, all of this hoopla is just a waste of time.

No one gives anyone special treatment before getting into a taxi so why should it be put into air transportation?

#3. Getting Comfortable

Personally, sleeping on a plane is magical and it doesn’t even have to be in first-class!  South African Airways has some of the best crew members ever! They provided me with as many blankets and pillows as I needed. The food was also amazing and they served juice and tea or coffee and they gave toothbrushes and toothpastes! So you can imagine what the first-class would be like. And yes, it was on this very flight that I went to the first-class lavatory.

In the case that you are not flying with South African Airways, then you’ll want to check the website of the airline.

#4. Dining

The truth is no matter how good the food is on an airline, it does not compare to the food served in the first-class section. The food and drinks there are of Michelin-star quality while the one in business-class is like the food you’d cook at home- delicious but you know that Wolfgang Puck would put you to shame.

#5. Attention

The flight attendants are rumored to pay more attention to the first-class passengers than to the rest of the passengers, but that wasn’t the case for me.

The flight attendants were always asking me if I needed anything or if the food was to my liking, etc.
