5 Steps To Prevent Regretting Travelling Light
Although you might be travelling light because you don’t want to deal with the troubles associated with excess luggage or carry a large bag for just a weekend, I am sure that you also do not want to spend your time wishing you had done something differently or you had not left something behind.
Therefore whilst you are making efforts to travel light by first packing light, some of the ways you can avoid feeling regret about having a light bag but lacking the things you need at that particular time is to heed these 5 travel tips:
#1. Your baggage depends on your destination
Don’t pack for the beach when you are on your way to Antarctica. Different places have different climates and even though losing those Jackets would make your luggage lighter, hypothermia has the ability to kill. Instead of getting rid of those Jackets in the hope that it will be warm whilst you are there, wear the Jacket and something light whilst going to the Airport.
#2. Find out about where you are going to
Find out if there would be access to laundry services, if there are places you can buy things from easily etc. This would help you decide if washing clothes will be feasible and if leaving out that dress would be advisable. Knowing what lies ahead would help you plan better for it.
#3. Get an itinerary
If possible find out what you will be doing or plan your activities before you begin to pack. Know the places you are likely to go to, and the activities you are going to be involved in. Different activities and occasions have different attires that are more suited to them. It would help you to decide which attires to leave out and which to pack in.
#4. Make a list
When you know your destination, you know what it is like, and know what is likely to happen there, the next step is to make a list. Make a list of those things you believe should be in your bag. Outlining them on a sheet of paper, a board or even in your phone will help you decide better which is necessary and which is not. It also helps to mark those you have packed, so you are not leaving anything behind. It is advisable to have this list at least 1 week to your date of travel.
#5. Make a final sweep
After packing your things, the night before you leave, go round and make sure you didn’t leave anything behind or didn’t take something you wanted to leave behind. Take your time to do a final mental sweep across your bag and across your home. This would reduce the risk of forgetting things.
Conclusion
Remember, these steps would only be helpful if they are done in ADVANCE. Apart from packing light, preparing on time (not in time) is also a good travel habit that we should try to cultivate.
