In light of the recent report that was disclosed, cities are being called upon to come up with long-lasting plans and strategies to make sure that the society will continue to survive through the years to come.

When a recommendation was made by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine that each of the city should have a plan drawn up, one that can be likened to the problems and experience other cities are facing, but must also include differences locally.
Chair of the committee, Linda Katehi and also the chancellor emerita of the University of California, Davis, mentioned in the report; “Given than 80 percent of the U.S. population now lives in urban areas, cities are pivotal in efforts to improve sustainability. While there is no cookie-cutter approach, the innovative methods now being developed in some cities should be helpful to others.”
City planners are urged by the report to make certain that the plan should be drawn up based on sustainability and must also bear in mind the standpoint of the residents as well as the national requirements. The planners should consider the important facts that have brings about sustainability; the likes of the continual change in the country’s economy and climate.
