Canadians Face A Shortage Of Fruits And Veggies

Fruits and vegetables are very important and are essential for attaining a good and healthy life. However, the cost of fruits and vegetables are on the increase. A study has shown that over the past years only few people ate fruits while others completely avoided buying certain kinds of fruits and vegetables which include broccoli, lettuce, oranges and apples.

With fresh fruits and vegetables becoming very expensive, people have sought to getting frozen foods instead which are less costly than fresh ones.

On a yearly basis, the cost of fruits and vegetables continue to rise as at 11.7% and 11% respectively. This has opened the room for lots of discussion to be had surrounding the situation. According to the Canadian Statistics, these figures are not showing any sign of reducing.

The price volume of these foods continues to affect people who have less earning, youths and the elderly. As a result less people consume fruits and vegetables that are essential for their growth and development. On the other hand, people that have high earnings have no problem with this situation.

In the past years certain fruits and vegetables have gone off limits for some people because they are too costly. Farming conditions have been blamed for the increase in the price levels. It has even reached a point that eat-out places have stopped making some dishes because the ingredients are expensive.

In a research done by the University of Guelph 2016 price, the figures are predicted to continue rising and even though the future is quite unknown, there are slim chances for the prices to go down.

This is “because of climate change, we are expecting food produce prices to increase more than they have been over the years.”
