The liberal government of Canada looks to welcome 300,000 immigrants and refugees
In order to drive the economy and improve the age demography of the country, the Immigration Minister of Canada, John McCallum, has announced that the country will allow 300,000 immigrants and refugees into Canada.
When he spoke to reporters after the report in Parliament he said that this will be a foundation for the future growth of the Canada.
From the years of 2011 to 2015, the target was 260,000 refugees and immigrants but that number quickly increased to 300,000 due to the Syrian war. The Yazidis will be part of the new baseline. Minister McCallum has now made that number the baseline.
450,000 is the target set by the government’s economic growth council for the coming five years but Mr. McCallum rejected that number.
“That number is a conceivable number for some date in the future, but certainly not for 2017”, said Minister John McCallum.
As much Mr. McCallum looks to improve the economy of his country while still providing opportunities to refugees and immigrants which will no doubt give better lives some think that the timing is a bit off; the country is currently struggling high unemployment. While other are simply worried the assimilation into a new country might be a culture shock for most but such “worry” is misplaced.
Over 170,000 will be part of the economic class—businesspersons, medical practitioners, teachers, etc. Within the family class, the number will go up from 80,000 to 84,000.
There are jobs Canadians will not want to do—such positions will be filled; provincial economies will be improved; and diversity will be vast and ambiguous which is never bad thing.
