Vancouver gives a haughty welcome to Trump Tower opening

Vancouver residents are releasing their wrath on the opening of the new Trump International Hotel and Tower that will soon begin operations. The sitting of the new US present Donald Trump, did not bring joy for many people.
This frenzy was also shared by the city mayo who wants the hotel’s name to be changed. A city councilman also described that tower as “over the top, glitz and glamour” that does not go in line with the values of Canada. But for the constructors of the hotel the situation is quite overwhelming.
Aside from the fact that the building which was designed by well know Canadian architects have received compliments for its creative designs, the prices for the condos are becoming the talk of town.
However, the recent decisions of Trump on immigrants had infuriated many Canadians and also the mayor of Vancouver who will not be attending the opening ceremony which is to happen next week. Furthermore, the Malaysian designer also was skeptical about collaborating in the development of the tower.
Joo Kim Tiah who is a son of a well know businessman just like the U.S. president was not in favor of the president’s political policy about Muslims, Mexicans and women and added that it is a contributing factor for his unpopularity in Vancouver which is one of the world’s most diverse cities.
In an interview, Joo Kim expressed that at some point, he became worried about the reaction of people for his involvement in the brand but was put at ease knowing the fact that he had signed the contract before the decisions were made. And there was no way for him to back out of the agreement or he would have faced legal implications.
The opening which is expected to occur next Tuesday will be attended by Trump sons, Donald Jr. and Eric.
The Trump International Hotel and Tower is Vancouver’s second tallest building. A one bedroom apartment, at 699 square feet has a price tag of $1 million and the average 1,153 square foot-two-bedroom condo was sold for $1, 7 million but the prices are still on the increase. Hotel rooms in the slow season begins at CAD$300.
Vancouver is the second location for a Trump Tower which has brought about numerous controversial comments as the city is well known for diversity as 40% of residents are for other countries.
Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson has appealed to the developers to change the name of the hotel.” Trump’s name and brand have no more place on Vancouver’s skyline than his ignorant ideas have in the modern world”, he added.
City Councilman Kerry Jang also called the tower as “a beacon of racism… intolerance, sexism and bullying”.
In addition, British Columbia Premier Christy Clark also added that the Trump name on the hotel doe not represent the value of the city.
