Municipalities Planning Curbed

A Growth Plan preserved under the province’s Places to Grow Act for Greater Golden Horseshoe by the Liberal government, which is labelled “one-size-fits-all” was criticized by the former head of the Progressive Conservatives, Hudak.

Hudak mentioned; “Right now that growth plan basically says that almost the entire GTA has got to look like Yonge and Eglinton. The province has really put municipalities in a planning straitjacket.” Tim would like cities to have their voices heard and opinion made in terms of constructing in their neighbourhoods.

The growth plan according to a spokesperson with the provincial Ministry of Municipal Affairs is to have sprawls lowered, defend valued natural resources and to construct more combined communities. According to Hudak the way to tackle the problem concerning exorbitant housing markets is to have housing stock increased.

Contributions on a reviewed version of the development plan are being made to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, the complete version is expected anytime from now. The final plan is likely to be available this year, public consultation on the draft is occurring now.
