Legalizing Cannabis In Calgary

Staying on the topic of legalizing marijuana in Canada, the city of Calgary, is not all too comfortable with the amount that it would have to pay annually. According to Mayor Naheed Nenshi, the bill could rise up to $12M and that both the provincial and federal governments should take of it.

“We don’t really have a choice in the matter, so it’s our job to be ready and we’ll be ready, but it is a lot of work”.

The cost of policing is not all he and his city will have to worry about; there is to be bylaw enforcement, inspections costs and land-zoning problems.

He would like the aforementioned governments to distribute the money they will get from the revenues to cities across the country so they can take care of costs.

Mr. Nenshi further emphasized the immerse importance of the cannabis revenue being appropriately apportioned between municipalities.

Amazingly enough, the city is open to hearing ideas from the general public as to how to go about policies that would apply to the ever-controversial plant that is marijuana. Thus far, the city has gotten amount 12,000 of them!

The Calgary council will pass many-a by-law amendments in the next coming months in preparation for the legalization of cannabis.
