Scottish Hospital Treats Cryptocurrency Addicts

Castle Craig Hospital in Scotland has started treating people with cryptocurrency addictions such as those trading in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. According to healthcare experts, people can get addicted to crypto trading and that addicts in such cases are dependent on keeping track of the daily changes in the market value of their traded tokens.

The West Linton facility is making use of a similar treatment used to handle gambling addicts and using them to the addicted crypto-traders in a move to help them understand how to survive without trading online.

Hospital gambling therapist Chris Burn noted:

“The high risk, fluctuating cryptocurrency market appeals to the problem gambler. It provides excitement and an escape from reality. Bitcoin, for example, has been heavily traded and huge gains and losses were made. It’s a classic bubble situation.”

Another therapist at the hospital Tony Marini uses his experience with his previous addictions to gambling and cocaine to understand what the addicts are experiencing and using it as a way to reach to them.

“Having been through it myself, my experience of addiction gives me insight and empathy towards others who have the same problem,” therapist Mr. Marini said.

Based on additcio.com, out of every hundred gamblers, three to five individuals find it challenging to deal with their addiction which is similar to crypto addicts. Even though the greater number of people are likely to invest or predict with money that they can afford, there have been reports of people losing their valuable possessions to crypto-gambling.

When Bitgrail exchange lost millions of dollars’ worth of Nano, some people were greatly affected compared to others. A thread called “Anyone else addicted to crypto? Indicates many users explaining that they cannot trade cryptocurrency without practicing unhealthy habits, stating lack of self-control, with some even revealing previous addictions.

Just like any other thing, trading cryptocurrencies can be pleasing to making people with addiction issues. Whether the addiction treatment programme will be successful in treating people with crypto trading is yet to be known.
