President Trump Latest Target, the Drug Companies

President Trump is at it again but this time, we might not entirely disagree with him: he is looking to lower the prices of drugs. He also wants to bring back pharmaceutical companies to North America.

He met with the executives of Merck, Eli Lily—to name a few—at the White House.

“We have to get prices down for a lot of reasons,” Trump said.

He also wants to bring back jobs to America. He is a broken record on that front. Trump promises to bring the prices of Medicare and Medicaid down. It is his promise that the process will be a quick one and won’t take “15 years”.

In recent years, drug companies have been under fire for increasing prices, doctored testings, etc. With President Trump, things will definitely change. Or else they will be banned, I guess.

“If you provide true medical differentiation coupled with a strong intellectual property position, I think the U.S. will continue to reward this kind of innovation. If you don’t offer that, then frankly I think it is the right thing that prices should come down.” Roche chief executive Severin Schwan told Reuters this month.

According to Mylan CEO Heather Bresch:

The pricing model has got to change,” she said earlier this month. “If anybody is walking away from this conference thinking it’s business as usual, that’s a mistake.”
