Amazon.ca Prime customers in Toronto and Vancouver are introduced to same day delivery service

Amazon.ca offers same-day free delivery in Toronto, Vancouver to Prime customers.

Online retailer Amazon says customers in Toronto and Vancouver that are signed up for its Prime service are now eligible for same-day deliveries as part of their premium plan.

Amazon.ca said Tuesday that Prime subscribers, who pay $79 per year for free delivery on items with no minimum order, seven days a week, will be entitled to free same-day delivery on orders above $25 on orders placed in the two cities which is Vancouver and Toronto. But in the U.S., a Prime membership also comes with streaming movie, television show and music services, which aren’t available in Canada.

Any orders on eligible goods in those markets placed in the morning wil be delivered by 9 p.m. that day, the company says.

Amazon Prime is a premium service that costs $79 per year but is eligible for a 30-day free trial. It includes free delivery within two days of orders placed through Amazon.ca. Not everything Amazon sells is eligible for the same-day delivery, but Amazon says one million items in the Toronto-area market and 700,000 items are included to customers near Vancouver.

Same-day delivery will be available for non-Prime customers, too, but at a cost of $11.99 per order (or $1.99 per pound for heavy items).

Amazon rival Indigo offers free shipping within Canada for orders over $25 for delivery in one to nine business days. It will also deliver items to its retail stores for free, with no minimum purchase required.
