Enbridge Inc. to cut down on it workforce under a new management

The Calgary-based company has announced that it will cut on more than 1,000 jobs after the company was bought by Spectra Energy in an effort to tackle overlaps in personnel.
Speaking on the matter, Enbridge noted that the layout amounts to about 6% of the existing 17,000 employees of the joint company.
Houston-based Spectra Energy Corporation and Enbridge had an amalgamation of employees after the takeover but after going through great consideration, Enbridge decided to take the difficult but need task to tackle the huge number of staffs in the joint company’s organizational setting.
According to the company’s spokesman Todd Nogier, the areas in which the cut will cover is still unknown but it is certain that there will be a cut done on the joint company.
Furthermore, the company has planes to move out of the Enbridge offices in Houston by the end of the year and combing forces at the Spectra’s offices.
In agreement to the conditions of the fusion, Calgary was made the headquarters of the joint company with the Huston office becoming the company’s gas pipelines business unit point.
Both companies had projected to make about C$540 million in annual cost from the cooperation following the C$37 billion, takeover in September last year.
During that period, Enbridge CEO Al Monaco stated that the company should embarking on cutting down on expenses with 60% of those savings expected to take place this year while an additional 30% in 2018.
The company had a recent job layoff in October last year when over 530 positions were cutoff in Canada and the U.S. According to Jim Fearon, vice president at recruitment firm Hays Canada suggested that the layoff of employees should not be seen as an under performance in the economy but as an agreement in the joint condition.
In a situation when two large companies come together as one, its normal for there to be an excess in requirements and this is just what’s playing out even though it might not come as good news to many who are about to lose their jobs.
