Large Number Of Vacancy Signs In Vancouver Active Main Street
It might come as a surprise to many walking down Main Street in Mount Pleasant to discover even though the areas which is well known for its plentiful distinguish restaurants and shops, there are still numerous vacancy signs around.
Going through a recent survey, it indicates there is a total of nine vacant properties on both side of Main Street from 7th to 20th Avenue. Some of these empty properties includes the previous RX Comics at 2418 Main, the previous Miura Restaurant and Bar at 2521 Main, and the previous Grantree Furniture at 2703 Main which is presently located at Kingsway.
The properties were evidently vacant with notice signs on their windows. A notice sign on the window of the former home of The Archetype, at 2549 Main was appreciating the support of their customers for the past 35 years.
In addition, Wang On Blinds at 2331 Main, had a notice notifying people about their move to another location on Kingsway but the reason for their moves was not disclosed.
The Foundation, a well recognized vegetarian restaurant also began to notify its customers that they will be closing the business after 15 years.
According to Mark Thomson, co-owner of the business, they are closing business as a result of high rent which they claim might continue to rise and they will not want to increase on the services they provide to their customers to raise the fund.
Even though most of the popular stores and restaurants on Main Street are closing down, the street is still vibrant as new business would be replacing the existing ones.
In the recent past, many business amounts have been concerned about the rising rental rates and is now leading to the closure of many popular businesses.
But for Adrian Beruschi, a senior vice-president with CBRE realty in Vancouver, this does not imply foreign owners or other retailers from other provinces will begin business on the Main Street.
Contrary to this, the younger generation residents will take over from their predecessors to continue from where they stopped and according to Beruschi, Main Street in Mount Pleasant will always continue to be one of the most productive commercial streets in the city.
