Indian Internet Blockchain Committee Attracts Reps From Microsoft, Zebpay And MasterCard

As Indian daily reports, The internet and Mobile Association of India is establishing a dedicated focus team for blockchain exploration which consists of big businesses and cryptocurrency players.

It was confirmed in a tweet posted on Tuesday, the IAMAI whose area of responsibility is to increase and expand the online and mobile sector will use its “Blockchain Committee” to “identify opportunities and challenges and work with government, industry, and startups to grow a blockchain “ecosystem.”

The task comes during testing periods for cryptocurrency in India with the country’s supreme court still considering if it should be legal for the reserve bank of India’s cryptocurrency prohibition in July.

Commenting on the scheme, Tina Singh, chair of the newly-founded Blockchain Committee, claimed that the technology was “undoubtedly the technology of the future,” citing that:

“The IAMAI Blockchain Committee will focus on creating a dialogue between all stakeholders; curate and create content to aid skill development and move towards creating a participative economy with the usage of the blockchain.”

Members of the committee added ZebPay, a big Indian cryptocurrency exchange who was affected by the central bank’s ban and stopped its exchange offering late last month.

Others include members from MasterCard, Microsoft, and IBM.

The RBI itself is also “researching” blockchain, sources reported in August, as part of an assessment procedure in which it would “check what can be adopted and what cannot.”
