Canadians not going to America for Black Friday shopping?

Why are Canadians staying for Black Friday? The answer, the low loonie. Since the Canadian dollar is at 74 cents US, Canadians no longer find the bonanza shopping their cousins to the south offer enticing.

Since they are no longer going to America for Black Friday shopping, the Black Friday shopping in Canada will increase by 8% this year; and Cyber Monday spending will go up by 15%. Canadian stores have been feeling the absence of Canadian shoppers over the past years, literally. So, they have decided to create their own Black Friday to keep the citizens at home and spending. Now that the retailers have seen that their fellow Canadians are willing to spend, they sure will make Black Friday an official “thing”.
